Elizabeth Gilbert says: Read SAVVY AUNTIE the book!
There are days and moments you remember forever. When you're an auntrepreneur and blessed with incredible good fortune and good people in your life, there are many moments that get locked in your memory - moments that move the needle.
But then there are the transcendent moments. These are the moments that don't just move the needle, they tip a point. Yesterday, I had one of those.
As you may recall, last winter I was fortunate enough to interview Elizabeth Gilbert (Eat, Pray, Love and her latest Bestseller Committed) about her thoughts on aunthood for SavvyAuntie.com In Committed, Auntie Liz -as I now affectionately call her- writes about the virtues of childless women and their incredible value to their nieces and nephews by relation and by choice -as well as to children around the world. She calls this the "Auntie Brigade."
I spoke with Liz for an hour that day while she was in the middle of her busy book tour. She is so supportive of Savvy Auntie that she was actually excited to speak with me. And when I asked if she'd consider reading a galley copy of my book when it was ready, her exact words were: "I'd be DELIGHTED!"
And so earlier this month I rushed her the very first galley copy of SAVVY AUNTIE: The Ultimate Guide for Cool Aunts, Great-Aunts, Godmothers and All Women Who Love Kids (HarperCollins/William Morrow) and yesterday.... Elizabeth sent me a note about my "lovely book." When I saw her name in my email box.... I knew something was about to change for Savvy Auntie. I'll keep Liz's personal words to me between us, but I do want to share her thoughts on the book with you:
"What a wonderful gift this book is for aunties of all of ages, backgrounds, shapes and varieties! This world is full of child-loving childless women (myself included) and finally we have been given a clever and thoughtful voice of our own. Read this book, embrace it, pass it along: 'Savvy Auntie', like the women it celebrates, is destined to be dearly loved."
See what I mean??
To have Elizabeth Gilbert share this with me and with anyone who should consider buying this book for themselves or an Auntie in their lives, is invaluable.
I am so deeply touched and honored... I still feel intoxicated by her words and had to wait until today to write this post so I could try to 'sober' up a bit.
If you loved Eat, Pray, Love and have not yet read Committed, please consider doing so. In it, Liz is so supportive of all us aunties. Her words there and in the quote above are authentic and written with love.
Thank YOU all for your continued support for my mission to change the paradigm shift from "childless" to "childfull." Elizabeth Gilbert just helped tip us a little closer to achieving just that.
XOXO,
Auntie Melanie
PS: OMG Elizabeth Gilbert loves the book!!!
As a fellow entrepreneur (stinkykids.com) I completely understand how important and incredibly satisfying events like this are as being an entrepreneur is a roller coaster of emotions and when there is a high, it makes all of the lows seem small and worth all of the continued effort and passion to make our dreams become realities. I love Elizabeth Gilbert and having her as a supporter of your passion is truly a gift and represents that what you are doing is important to us all. Congratulations.
